The Abandoned Village - Doel.
Doel is a subdivision of the municipality of Beveren. It is located in the Flemish province of Oost-Vlaanderen, near the river the Scheldt (Schelde) and in a polder of the Waasland.
Electrabel owns a Nuclear Plant with four reactors to the north of Doel. This plant has a total output of 2,8 GW and it delivers electricity mostly to Belgian inhabitants and the neighbour countries like the Netherlands and Germany.
This small village is threatened with complete demolition due to the expansion of the seaport of Antwerp. This causes many people having to sell their homes to the development corporation of that enlargement. Many historical buildings will be destroyed including a neoclassic church, a Flemish Renaissance house (1614) and the Wind Mill.
