Jamie Chan is a Belgian Based Hong Kong-Chinese, living in Deurne, a district of Antwerp. Besides his part-time job as an accountant, he is also a Photographer, an Amateur Cook and a Creative Free Soul.
Life
Jamie was born in Hong Kong, former British Crown Colony, to the Chinese parents Cathy KC Cheng and Leo YW Chan. He has an elder brother Himmy and a younger sister Inés. Jamie attended A. Bergmann Middle School and A. Vanderpoorten High School, studying Economics & Maths, and grew up in Lier, a small city between Antwerp and Mechelen, and spending time hanging out around with friends, especially at pubs. Jamie attended at the Catholic College of Mechelen for three years and got his Bachelor degree of Business Management, with major in Accounting & Tax. After that he went to the College of Antwerp, where he got his second bachelor degree in Advance Tax System.
After Jamie got his first bachelor degree, he started his first job as a Financial System Analyst, then as Financial Analyst and later as Auditor. Combining with a daytime job, he went to College of Antwerp to study for his second degree in Tax. But a few years of hard working and studying together, Jamie got tired and wanted to go for a Master degree. So, he is now doing a halftime job as an Accountant in the Artistic Branch, working for Jan Fabre’s companies and studying at the Free University of Brussels.
Photographer
Jamie’s interest in Photography started back in 2001, when he first used a Compact Camera of Sony. He thought (and still thinks) it was amazing how different the World can be through a Lens and how astonishing it was to capture a Moment of Life. So after a few years of experimenting, he finally bought a Digital SLR Camera of Canon. His favorite Photographers are Martin Parr, Robert Frank, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, Bruce Gilden, Paul Strand, Jimmy Kets, Carl de Keyzer and Robert Doisneau. Those are Documentary Photographers and Street Photographers. Jamie likes to make use of the Lens to see the world from another point of view, that’s why he gets so interested in Documentary Photography. In 2008, Jamie took a course to refine his techniques and learnt that Portraits and Still Life Photography could be interesting as well.
